🎧🎵Sonic Branding: The Power of Audio in Marketing
🎧What is sonic branding
Sonic branding
is a method of strategically using sound elements such as rhythms, songs,
tones, and voices to define a brand's identity
How it works
Sonic branding is created and utilized
through a combination of sound elements to establish a brand's identity.
That sonic trigger catches your
listeners' attention, enabling your brand to build a distinctive identity and
create meaningful connections.
👀Sounds
hypnotizing you
Throughout various aspects of our
lives, we have been influenced by the power of music and its encompassing
sounds. I have one too!
When I'm traveling, I often find myself
listening to music (mostly melodies). It's strange, though; it doesn't really
change my energy or anything related.
Instead, it just makes me feel relaxed,
and sometimes I even unintentionally doze off while listening.
But, when I attend social events with
music playing in the background; it's totally different. I can feel the music's
impact on me. It's like my energy levels shoot up, and I become so lively and
enthusiastic.
What are you?
A multiple personality??? 😂
To the first one, the sounds activate
the parasympathetic nervous system (means - it unlocked your stress reducing
agent), but on the next context, a very familiar terminology, dopamine release
(no words to say, you clicked the pleasure 👉button)
This
isn’t just stop with travels and parties, we hear sounds everywhere, some
affects us, and some benefits us;
Keep reading to discover how this plays a role in marketing and manipulates people. (audiences in a casual term)
No idea segment
As
I said earlier, sounds can really shape our behavior and perception, but it's
not just about music.
Even
a simple doorbell can bring emotions in us. I mean, when someone rings the bell
unexpectedly, we can't help but wonder who is this time, right? 😤
And
let's talk about movies, my favourite one Christopher Nolan's films. Always
filled with amazing background sound effects that add a whole new dimension to
the experience.
Without
those sounds, you might find yourself dozing off in no time. I recently watched
"Oppenheimer," and oh man, what a fantastic film it was!
Every
scene felt so real, and I was completely drawn into the story.
The
music and soundtracks, When the protagonist researched about the atomic bomb, I
felt like I was right there with him, part of the whole play.
The
music really played a significant role in bringing the movie to life.
sounds
can define emotions in
people, you want to know how?
Take
an example of the sound of a jaws, the sound of the monster approaching boat in
films, well, the sound conveys a lot of negative meanings of the threat of the
monsters – fear unleashed
The
taste of the food was not so appetizing, but the background music in the
restaurant was truly pleasing, helps with completing the hamburger.
I would list all day, there is no end
to describe sounds and the volume it has on this planet 🌍
📢Sonic
Branding in Marketing
Sounds have a profound impact on our
lives – from understanding past, present, and future events to evoking emotions
and much more.
Just a moment ago, while I was writing
my blog, I heard a familiar sound from my phone, "Ding!" Then, a few
minutes later, more dings followed.
I momentarily stopped writing to check
my phone, oops, Just a quick update: My Airtel balance notification – I used up
1GB in just half an hour! 😅
It's amazing how just a simple sound
like a ding bell can disrupt our work and grab our attention.
Sounds play a crucial role in various
aspects of our lives, be it through social media, TV ads, movies, or even the
sounds our friends make when we get together.
Sonic
branding research delves into the impact of sounds in both personal and
professional settings, exploring how they shape our experiences and leave a
lasting impression on us.
How do sonic branding attracts users
I have mentioned some of the channels
in which through brands and marketers are coming to you and grab your
attention,
1.
social
media content (videos, shorts, reels, etc.)
2.
audio
channels (podcast, music, sound effects)
3.
Digital
voice assistants
4.
TV
commercials, news release
Netflix
"Ta-dum"
One of the most notable examples of an audio signature is Netflix's iconic "Ta-dum" sound.
Even
if you're not a Netflix user, chances are you've heard it before! Introduced in
2015, the "Ta-dum" sound has become inseparable from the streaming
giant's brand.
This
three-second audio clip effectively communicates Netflix's brand identity. It's
instantly recognizable, and anyone can associate it with the platform.
Nokia
"Nokia Connecting People"
How many of you have used the Nokia mobiles? Before Android became widely available and convenient for all, Nokia was the ubiquitous choice, ringing in every household.
While
some may find those old versions of mobile phones harder to use, others
consider them as modern-day productivity devices.
Nokia
had a distinctive audio signature along with a unique visual of hands joining
together, accompanied by the slogan "Nokia Connecting People."
This
clear and memorable branding effectively communicated the brand's unique
services and offerings to the audience.
McDonald
"Ba ba ba ba ba, I'm Lovin' It"
McDonald's has created a short and catchy audio signature, "Ba ba ba ba ba, I'm Lovin' It," which has become synonymous with the fast-food giant's identity.
Alongside
this jingle, the iconic "M" logo pops out, making it unique and
instantly recognizable.
McDonald's effectively utilizes sensory
marketing techniques in its branding by combining eye-catching visuals (with
color theory applied) and quick animations of the symbol conveys it’s
fast-service and the audio too has well applied.
